How to Clean Windows You Can’t Reach
Do you have windows that are difficult or impossible to reach? Are you still in search of professional cleaning services in Wollongong or reliable cleaners in Newcastle? Elleisha's Property Services is here to help you!
Cleaning windows may not be the most glamorous of housekeeping tasks, but it’s one of the most important. You see that expanse of glass every day, so keeping it sparkling is a must. However, cleaning inside or outside windows can also be a tricky job due to awkward angles, narrow ledges, and high-up surfaces.
In fact, many people avoid cleaning their outside windows because they think it’s too difficult. After all, how do you reach those hard-to-reach panes? Apparently, many people also think that using ladders or scaffolding is an essential part of the process.
That’s why we have compiled this ultimate guide to help you learn how to clean windows you can't reach.
Choosing the Right Tools and Cleaning Supplies
The first step in learning how to clean high windows is choosing the right tools. Depending on the height and angle of your outside windows, you may need a ladder or even a power washer.
You'll also need the right cleaning supplies.
- broom with a long handle
- extendable squeegee
- microfiber cloths
- ladder
- magnetic window cleaner
- hose with spray attachment
- bucket
- mild soap or cleaning solution
For most windows, a simple solution of vinegar and water is all you need. If your windows are extremely dirty, you may need to use a stronger cleaner, such as dish soap or window cleaner. Be sure to test any cleaners in an inconspicuous area before using them on the entire window.
You'll also need a soft cloth or sponge, as well as a squeegee for drying the window. To avoid streaking, be sure to use a clean cloth or sponge for each section of the window.
Assuming you have chosen the right tools and cleaning supplies, you are now ready to start cleaning those hard-to-reach windows.

How to Clean Glass Windows from the Inside
The easiest way to clean sliding windows you cannot reach is from the inside. If possible, open the window and use a squeegee or soft cloth to clean the outside surface.
Start by wetting your cloth or sponge in your cleaning solution. Wring it out so that it is damp but not dripping wet. Then, starting at the top of the window, wipe down the entire surface. Be sure to rinse your cloth or sponge frequently to avoid streaks.
Once you have wiped down the entire surface, use your squeegee to dry the window. Start at the top again and move the squeegee in even strokes from one side to the other. Be sure to wipe off the blade of your squeegee after each stroke to avoid streaks.
If you can't reach the outside of your window from the inside, you'll need to use a ladder or scaffolding.
How to Clean Glass Windows from the Outside
If you can't reach your outside windows from the inside, you'll need to use a ladder or scaffolding. Always take caution when using a ladder, and be sure to follow all safety instructions. Once you're safely on the ladder, wet your cloth or sponge in your cleaning solution and wring it out. Then, starting at the top of the window, wipe down the entire surface.
As before, be sure to rinse your cloth or sponge frequently to avoid streaks. After you have wiped down the entire surface, use your squeegee to dry the window. Start at the top again and move the squeegee in even strokes from one side to the other. Be sure to wipe off the blade of your squeegee after each stroke to avoid streaks.
If your window is extremely high or difficult to reach, you may need to use a power washer. Be sure to follow all safety instructions when using a power washer. You'll also need to use a special attachment that is safe for glass.
Once you have the attachment in place, wet the surface of the window with your cleaning solution. Then turn on the power washer and hold it about six inches from the surface of the window. Move the wand back and forth in even strokes until the entire surface is clean. Rinse off any remaining cleaner with clean water.
Magnetic window cleaners are also a great option for cleaning outside windows you cannot reach. These cleaners use magnets to hold a cloth or sponge in place, so you don't have to worry about losing your grip.
When to Hire a Professional Window Cleaner?
There are some instances when it's best to hire a professional window cleaner. If your windows are extremely high or difficult to reach, it's probably best to leave it to professionals than use a window cleaning kit.
Hiring professional window cleaners is also a good idea if you don't have the time or patience to clean your upper windows yourself. They have the experience and equipment necessary to get your windows clean quickly and efficiently.
So, if you're not up for the challenge of cleaning your own windows be sure to hire a professional window cleaning company.
